Emotional Freedom Technique (or EFT) is a very powerful technique that can release any “stuck” emotions that are preventing you from moving forward and achieving your goals. You may also have heard it referred to as "tapping" or Meridian Energy Therapy.
It uses the same energy meridians which are also used in acupuncture. However, the points are tapped on using only fingers – no needles are involved. It is simple and easy to do and can be done by the therapist on the client, or more usually by the client on themselves following the therapist’s instructions. Once learnt you can continue to use it on your own in many different situations.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on the fact that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system. A thought or memory triggers this disruption which is then experienced either as a physical or psychological pain. EFT balances this disrupted energy and thus relieves the client of their issues. It has been shown many, many times to help even long standing issues, sometimes issues that have been experienced over many years.
EFT is a very gentle therapy and is completely painless, and because you are carrying out the technique yourself under my guidance and instructions it can also be done via the internet wherever you are in the world using a Skype session if you are unable to travel to my practice in Hertfordshire.
What is the history of Emotional Freedom Technique?
The balancing of the body’s natural energy flow has been used for many hundreds of years by many different cultures, including the Indian and Chinese.
EFT itself originated from Thought Field Therapy which was created by US clinical psychologist Roger Callahan. Whilst working with an anxious client he discovered that stimulating acupressure / energy points led to psychological relief for them. He went on to carry out more experiments and discovered a series of useful points.
Gary Craig, who studied with Callahan, went on to identify a comprehensive set of energy points that could be applied to treat any emotional problem. He called this Emotional Freedom Technique. He used his technique to help people with a wide range of emotional and physical problems.
How many sessions will I need?
You can expect to experience changes after the first session, but most issues take a number of sessions. On average clients need between 3 and 6 sessions. Each session lasts for approximately one hour. Discounts are available to clients who wish to book and pay for a group of sessions in advance.
